  • Verify application of local procedures and overarching company management practices reviewing on a regular basis to support continuous improvement
  • The Job holder is accountable to the Quality Engineering Manager for the provision of specialist technical expertise in carrying out their role deployments
  • Ensure Quality is maintained at AWE and behaviours are driven by 'Right First Time Every Time'
  • Ensure processes meet the requirements of the corporate systems
  • Ensure that customer requirements are being met in respect of Quality
  • Verify through monitoring, review and external bench-marking, the effectiveness and implementation of management system arrangements
  • Provide and/or manage technical support to business activities to proactively prevent non-conformances internally and from our supply base
  • Provide Quality guidance in support of the Projects, Programmes, Products and Facilities to improve design, system and process performance
  • Provide support and advice on the use of quality tools, audit and improvement methods
  • Plan problem solving efforts and conduct investigations and audits into quality problems and procedural issues internally and at our suppliers
  • Undertake as required supplier assessment and performance review
  • Consistently demonstrates positive behaviours in relation to environment, safety, health, security and quality in line with the 'Our ESH Culture' framework

  • Extensive (current) working knowledge of Quality Management Systems and related standards (e.g. Health & Safety, Environment, Security)
  • This job requires the technical knowledge associated with performing the generic role of a Quality Engineer/Manager
  • There are specific knowledge requirements relating to working at AWE
  • AWE Quality Procedures and Safety Procedures
  • AWE Facilities, Processes and Operations (as needed by the role)

Technical Skills

  • Senior Quality Engineers are expected to be able to undertake a range tasks as identified within the applicable capability matrix
  • The specific skills/ techniques that are required for a role/deployment will be identified as part of the tasking process

Business Skills

  • Good inter-personal/negotiation/communication skills
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Basic Project Management knowledge
  • Customer satisfaction and the tools and processes utilised in measuring business performance and delivery
  • Good understanding of configuration and change management techniques
  • Understanding of improvement techniques, such as Lean, Six Sigma, RLI, etc
  • Influencing and engaging with management
  • Ability to develop, implement and maintain management systems, processes, procedures and other supporting documentation
  • Completion of vendor selection monitoring and management processes
  • Auditing from definition/scheduling through to implementation, reporting and close out
  • Providing quality resource estimates and budgets
  • Facilitating meetings and assisting in defining, recording and expediting actions
  • Attention to detail


  • HNC equivalent in a relative discipline and/or extensive practical experience
  • Working towards Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or alternative engineering institute

Other Requirements

  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance necessary for the role
  • Willing and able to work in designated areas
  • Willing and able to travel within the UK as necessary
