An excellent opportunity as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer has arisen, which involves working with a team of highly skilled developers and delivering commercial projects and R&D work across a variety of products and technologies.

Job Purpose:
To design the mechanical aspect of electronic/RF equipment, the constituent parts and produce 3D models for general use by team members.
To prepare assembly and manufacture drawings to company and industry standards
To specify materials, finishing details and manufacturing tolerances.
To carry out thermal analysis and design for thermal dissipation using convection and forced air cooling techniques where applicable.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* To design and develop a range of modules and equipment extending from simple metal housings to complex equipment, accommodating multiple interacting modules housed in densely populated chassis.
* Integrating electronics into mechanics and any 19inch rack design.
* Produce 3D models for manufacturing, concept visualisation and proof of mechanical design integrity.
* Produce mechanical drawings to industry standards for manufacturing purposes.
* Define tolerances and finish details in line with product technical requirements and manufacturing limitations; through liaison with fabrication houses, industry standards and product technical leads.
* Support design for cost effective manufacturing.
* Liaison and working in partnership with colleagues as well as sub-contractors. Carry out thermal analysis and design for efficient thermal dissipation.
* Intercept and produce functional block diagrams and shelf schematics.
* Manage work packages, in collaboration with project managers and product champions, to deliver products to a given brief; on time, on budget and to specification.
* Produce detail technical assembly instructions to support the production.
* Encourage and support continuous improvement within the department.

Competencies Required for the Role:

* Extensive experience in 3D CAD engineering
* Experience working with 19-inch rack designs.
* Able to generate manufacturing and assembly drawing
* Thermal modelling
* Reliability analysis / understanding
* Familiarity with ERP systems, BOM structure and design/production engineering procedures
* Basic understanding of electronic components and modules
* Ability to draw 2D wiring diagrams and schematics
