Job Purpose:
Providing leadership to the hardware team, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality of both internal and external customers.

Scope / dimensions:
Leading a team of up to 5 Hardware Engineers, this person will be looking after multiple projects at a time; developing project plans and providing hands-on design work as required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop project plans, monitor progress against these and liaise with Engineering Project leads and Project Managers
- Ensure that all work within their function is of sufficient quality and is carried out according to the correct process
- Review and sign-off significant technical documents; chair technical reviews
- Explain technically complex concepts clearly
- Define and improve processes, practices, methodologies and tools for their function; ensuring that these are rolled-out effectively
- Work with Mechanical, ECAD, and Environmental teams to ensure designs meet the requirements
- Support Bids and Proposals and PV activities by providing high quality technical input to define a solution to the appropriate level, review technical proposals, and provide estimates for the associated costs and risks
- Provide line management to all employees within their function (i.e. conducts appraisals, career development discussions, provides input to salary review)
- Assist with recruitment (permanent and contract) by participating in interviews and selection
- Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Project planning using MS Project
- Hardware projecting leading and mentoring and coaching engineers
- Analysis of product requirements to contribute to concept designs and feasibility
- Appreciation of designs methods to meet EMC and TEMPEST requirements
- Ability to review documents and drawings to ensure clear communication of key parameters
- Understanding electronic assembly failure modes and investigatory techniques
