I am looking for an experienced Software Defined Network Architect who will have the opportunity to work across a diverse set of network technologies and telecommunications technologies, specializing on the proof-of-concept and prototype phases for new technologies, and also being subject matter expertise on the topics of SDN and NFV.
The successful candidate will be capable of interacting with stakeholders at all levels, eliciting user requirements, developing and analysing alternative system-level architectures, generating technical specifications. The role will draw upon the expertise of technical and software defined network specialists
You will be working within the research and development team for the one of the most advanced joint ventures on satellite solutions (two of the biggest providers in the world)

The SDN Architect will work with some of the most skilled solutions engineers in the country when it comes to IT, networks and satellite platforms. This job includes:
Bringing deep subject matter expertise on the topics of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and virtualization technologies as applied to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) into a small, dynamic and multidisciplinary team.
You will work closely with the Director of research and development who is responsible for delivering products and services relevant to different clients
Working on a number of related satcom projects, and perform tasks as necessary during the entire lifecycle of the research and development phases
gaining new knowledge in a rapid way, as well as exploiting previous experience, to help the team achieve their goals on time
To be a good fit for the SDN Architect role, you will need to show proven experience of designing and implementing large scale systems using SDN connectivity and virtualization for NFV.
A Background in the following will be beneficial for this role:
Bachelor Degree level education (Computing Science, Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical discipline)
Extensive history of working in a relevant communications, network infrastructure or related computing infrastructure field.
Comprehensive experience and demonstrated expert knowledge in: Software Defined Networking (SDN) with a particular preference for Contrail/Open Contrail and/or Open Daylight; Virtualization using Open stack/Docker or other common container and VM technologies
Excellent knowledge of IP networks (network switching and routing, TCP/IP, UDP/IP and multicast).
Experience of tunnelling protocols such as PBB-EVPN, VXLAN, LISP
To be successful you will possess some of the following abilities
Able to translate between business requirements and the needs of the technical community in the form of Requirements specifications, architecture specifications and technical designs.
Open source tools development, implementation, and collaboration experience
Experience of working in satcom or telecommunications
Ability to build systems from scratch and a desire to be hands-on;
System software development experience
Deep understanding of modern rapid and agile development methodologies and test-driven, iterative development practices;
Strong interpersonal skill and oral and written communication skills;
Willingness and commitment to travel.
