Your experience as a Vehicle Mechanic/Technician within a Military environment will be invaluable to our client, a world-leader in cutting-edge defence and security systems and platforms.

They are looking for a Field Service Engineer to provide diverse vehicle maintenance and specialist advice to both MOD and company personnel, at Army units around the UK and occasionally overseas.

The Field Service Engineer will be based out of our client's facility in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, but must be willing to travel throughout the UK to work at UK Army Units or trials locations on a regular basis. There may also be the need to travel to support the MOD overseas (e.g. BATUS in Canada). The FSE must also be willing to work extended hours and some weekends when required.

Responsibilities for this role are:

Responsibilities
Technical focal point for all vehicle related matters including modifications, Post Design Services (PDS), technical training and defect reporting.
Assess battle damage, warranty faults and recommend rectification procedures.
Adapt courseware and provide training to new team members.
Oversee/advise/mentor MOD crew personnel and Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).
Work with design/project engineers to develop optimised engineered solutions. Provide field feedback on technical issues and support System and Software Engineers in designing technical resolution.
Carrying out all levels of repairs on vehicle variants, plus upgrades & modifications.
Perform business support administration (timesheets, procurement of equipment, stocktaking, collect and report data).
Document, maintain and improve Work Instructions (including strip down, non-destructive testing, etc.)

To be considered, applicants will ideally be qualified to Degree level or equivalent experience in Field Service Engineering or related discipline with:
Military VM1 / NVQ and/or City & Guilds Level 3:
City and Guilds Pt1 and Pt2 (Motor Vehicle Technicians)
City and Guilds Pt3 (Wheeled and Tracked Technology)
Full UK Driving licence including Category H, legally allowed to drive in the UK and have access to transport

You will have knowledge of automotive systems and how they work together, including CANbus systems, hydraulic and electrical systems. You will be customer focused with good communication skills and the ability to share knowledge within the team, as well as being IT literate with working knowledge of automotive diagnostic systems. You will be used to working away from home for extended periods and willing to work several months in demanding locations.

In addition, the following would be desirable:

Practical knowledge of JAMES to record repair activities
In depth Armoured Fighting Vehicle experience
Certified Driver/Maintainer for at least one SV vehicle type
Training delivery experience
Previous CONDO experience
City & Guilds Level 3:
City and Guilds Pt1 and Pt2 (Motor Vehicle Craft Studies)
City and Guilds Pt2 (General, Light Vehicle Technology)
Member of a Professional Institution (IET or IMechE) with professional recognition
