Provides general safety advice, guidance and operational support for the staff deployed within specified facilities and within the central Environment Safety Health Function. Follows agreed strategies in line with relevant legislation, industry standards and AWE's policies, procedures and guidance. Completes data reporting and associated documentation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provision of specialist technical expertise in carrying out their role deployments


Key Responsibilities

  • Support to the local ESH culture improvement programme
  • Monitoring progress on associated Operational/Assurance Functional Excellence Plans (FEP), Key Performance Indicators (KPI) etc facilitating progress, as appropriate, to needs, accountabilities and responsibilities
  • Ensuring that company strategies, policies and management system requirements for safety are communicated and understood
  • Contributing to processes that assess performance of the development and use of safety activities and Licence Condition compliance and identify where improvements could be made
  • Maintaining and promoting high standards in Environment, Safety, Health, Security and Quality
  • Promoting learning and improvement
  • Responsible for undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line and task management
  • Supports production of safety documentation for a project and/or portfolio
  • Supports programme delivery of a project and/or portfolio
  • Provides technical input to the production of company policy, guidance and strategy
  • Supports Technology Centre specific safety management activities/programmes to ensure compliance with safety legislation and company arrangements
  • Delivery of safety assessments and other technical inputs to agreed quality and delivery standards
  • Engages with all internal and external regulators/stakeholders
  • The Job holder is accountable to the Technical Discipline Lead for the Safety Specialist for the provision of specialist technical expertise in carrying out their role deployments

Experience

  • Safety advisor experience in an Industial / Operational environment
  • Investigation and inspection techniques
  • Customer service related tasks and duties

  • Qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Safety & Health
  • Degree in a science or engineering based subject or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent) and/or commensurate practical experience (Preferred)
  • Member of IOSH (in order to develop H&S competence through continuous professional development) (Preferred)
  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role
  • Willing and able to work in designated areas of site
