ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Install, terminate and test structured cabling installations up to Cat 6a / Cat 7 (class EA / F)

  • You will be able to interpret test results and identify any problems or non-compliant results and will have the ability to correct them.

  • You will be competent with the installation of containment systems.

  • You will be able to interpret plans and layouts and will be responsible for updating site record drawings.

  • You will have skills over and above those of a Data Specialist which may include one or more of the following:

  • Fibre optic - You will be experienced in the installation, termination (fusion splicing and polishing) and testing of optical fibre cables. You will be able to test cables using Power Source / Light meter or OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectomer). You will be able to interpret results and identify any problems or non-compliant results and you will have the ability to correct them.

  • CCTV - you will be experienced in the installation, setting up (including lens adjustments), configuring with basic information. You will be able to test using local and remote monitors and a rotakin type test target where necessary, record results, identify problems and correct them.

  • Access Control - you will be experienced in the installation, setting up, configuring with basic information, testing, recording test results, identifying problems and correcting them.

  • Audio Visual - you will have experience in the installation, setting up, configuring with basic information, testing, recording test results, identifying problems and correcting them.

  • Assist in building long-term relationships with customers to achieve repeat business opportunities wherever possible.

  • Monitor the quality of your installation works.

  • You will maintain a high standard for Health, Safety and Environmental performance.

  • Deliver team briefings and toolbox talks as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to performance plans

  • Identify any training / skills needs that you may have and report them to your Team or Project Leader.

  • Project Work

  • Plan the resource requirements for the installation of works in progress.

  • Ensure effective communications with all team members

  • Review quality control, testing and commissioning of works.

  • Ensure zero defects at handover.

Project Control

  • Liaise with Team / Project Leader to ensure sufficient materials, plant and equipment are available to complete your works without delay.

  • Monitor external delays and interruptions to progress in conjunction with the Team / Project Leader.

  • Customer Service

  • Take personal pride in providing a quality service to customers (either internal or external) to achieve targets.

  • Use appropriate questioning skill to understand the precise nature of issues that the customer may raise.

  • Communication

  • Demonstrate the confidence to actively listen, participate and make a constructive contribution to meetings and briefings.

  • Display a positive attitude and body language in communicating with others either on a one to one or group basis.

KEY SKILLS

Knowledge of quality systems

  • Detailed knowledge of technical requirements of British, International and Project Specific standard for installation, testing, management and quality control.

  • Experienced in and hold manufacturer or industry standard qualifications in technical aspects of Structured Cabling Systems.

  • Experienced in and hold manufacturer or industry standard qualifications in technical aspects of Fibre Optic installations, CCTV Systems, Access Control Systems or Audio Visual Systems.

Responsible for the installation, termination, configuration and testing of your work packages

Will have a minimum of 3 months experience as a Data Specialist delivering: -

  • Quality installations

  • Projects completed to programme

  • Safe working environment
