The communications and control solutions (CCS) department develop products for the Emergency Services of the United Kingdom and overseas. The products are used within:

The Police Service

For Command and Control systems to handle 999 incidents varying from minor public misdemeanours to large scale civil disorder

For processing people taken into Custody to ensure they are treated fairly according to the Police And Criminal Evidence Act

For the preparation of Cases to be submitted to the Crown Prosecution System

For the connection and management of Police Radios and Telephones communications

The Ambulance Service

For the Command and Control of 999 incidents varying from minor accidents to Major disasters

Managing the installation and maintenance of radios in all ambulances in England

For the connection and management of Ambulance Radios and Telephones communications

The Fire Service

For the Command Control of 999 incidents varying from minor Road Traffic Accidents to Major disasters

For the connection and management of Radios and Telephones communications

The Maritime Coast Guard Agency

For the Command Control of 999 incidents varying from distress calls at sea, to Mountain Rescue events on land

For the connection and management of Radios and Telephones between land, air and sea vessels/vehicles.


  • Evaluate customer requirements to elicit the underlying problem and present the problem in written and spoken form
  • Participate in the design of appropriate software solutions
  • Work with developers to ensure understanding of requirements and that the solution is appropriate
  • Work with test analysts to ensure understanding of requirements and that testing is appropriate
  • Define conditions of acceptance/test criteria
  • Take part in test activities to ensure the delivered solution matches the given requirements
  • Ensure quality and uniformity in analysis artefact delivery
  • Identify opportunities through use of IT solutions
  • Liaise extensively with external and internal clients
  • Analyse existing systems and business models
  • Map and documenting interfaces between legacy and new systems
  • Translate client requirements into highly specific project user stories
  • Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for both technical and business suitability
  • Conduct requirements analysis and prepare specific proposals for modified or replacement systems
  • Present analysed proposals to internal and external clients
  • Work closely with colleagues, developers, testers and a variety of end users to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction
  • Plan and work flexibly to deadlines
  • Support users on change control and system updates
  • Provide training and user manuals to users of a new system
  • Keep up to date with technical and industry developments

  • Act as an ambassador for Agile software development methodologies
