The Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) is part of the EUROCONTROL Agency and is tasked with the provision of Air Traffic Control (ATC) services to civil air traffic in the upper airspace over Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the north-western part of Germany. A Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) unit is co-located at MUAC, controlling Operational Air Traffic (OAT) over North-West Germany. MADAP is the data center of MUAC and provides data processing and display capabilities to these local operational services, and also remotely to the Royal Netherlands Airforce.

As a Linux Administration support, your task will be to preserve the day-to-day performance of Linux Systems within MUAC. In particular, you will support the ENG/ICS/SOV Team (Storage, Operating Systems and Virtualization Team) which is responsible for installation and maintenance of the Storage, Operating System and Virtualization infrastructure.  


  • Monitoring system health, including backup status
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution
  • System upgrades and updates (e.g. from RHEL 5 to RHEL 6 or RHEL 7, SLES 11 SP3 to SLES 11 SP4 or SLES 12)
  • Implementation of patches and packages (functional and securi-ty), assuring that systems continue to function
  • Integration in management and administration tools (SUSE Manager, monit, potentially NAGIOS)
  • Creating and maintaining a system inventory and report
  • Installation and configuration of new or updated Linux systems (based on RHEL and SLES), including storage and network re-source configuration
  • Development of scripts supporting the automation of system administration tasks
  • Bachelor Degree (or similar) in computer science (or a related topic)
  • In depth understanding of Linux systems administration:
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in maintaining Linux systems in virtualized environments
  • Experience in installing, configuring and maintaining services like Apache, ActiveMQ, Tomcat, MySQL, nginx, etc.
  • Ability to analyse and resolve problems in a production environment
  • Experience in scripting and automation using e.g. Perl, bash, python or similar
  • Good understanding of storage and networking technology
