Graduate Civil Engineer
North Tyneside

We are currently looking for Graduate Civil Engineers to work within our North Tyneside Partnership.
Our Graduate Civil Engineering Training Programme is approved to meet the requirements of the ICE. We provide a supportive environment which enables our graduates to develop their skills and achieve their full potential. The training programme allows you to rotate around the different teams acquiring new skills and knowledge within our Engineering Teams . Rotation will require site visits or to be site based where needed and spend time with our ConstructionTeam.
Once the Graduate has completed their rotation and it is successful, a discussion will take place around which area of Engineering the Graduate wishes to specilaise in such as Construction, Drainage, Engineering Design, Traffic & Transportation or Structures. The successful applicant will start within the Structures and Highways team.
We have an opportunity in our Infrastructure and Design team and another opportunity in our Traffic Engineering team, if you have a preference you can specify this on your application or at a later date.
Location
This role will be based in our offices in North Tyneside. However, travelling may be required to other Capita offices or Client offices.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities could include but will not be limited to:
Contribution to infrastructure design projects, including road feasibility studies, designs and reports
Ensuring designs are carried out in accordance with current design standards taking into account CDM (Construction Design Management) legislation, whole life costing, value and risk management.
Assist Programme management as required
Contribution to other fee earning consultancy work - primarily in other Civils orientated projects, when required
- Projects will include highway improvements for local authority road network including commercial and residential developments and require feasibility studies, detail design, cost estimates and programming input.
Essential Experience/Skills
MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering
Proficient in a wide range of IT skills including Autocad and Windows
Highways/Traffic & Transportation/Structures design experience
Knowledge of highways/traffic & transportation structures design procedures
Knowledge of contract preparation
Commitment to achieve Chartered/IEng status with the ICE within agreed timescales
- Good report writing skills
Desirable Experience/Skills
Knowledge and understanding of Drainage Engineering
Knowledge and understanding of Transport Modelling and/or Planning
- Knowledge and understanding of highways maintenance/asset management
Personal Attributes
Be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues
Be able to prioritise work under pressure and work within deadlines
Good presentation and communication skills
- Willingness to volunteer in the local community encouraging young people to work towards a career in Engineering

Remuneration Package
37.5 hours a week
Annual leave - negotiable, but typically 20 days
