Human Scientist - Behavioural Specialist -  Cyber Vulnerability Investigation (CVI) - DV Cleared

Defence needs to understand the vulnerabilities in its system and platforms that an adversary might exploit in a cyber-attack. To support this, Defence is conducting Cyber Vulnerability Investigations (CVIs) in all of Defence’s systems, platforms and capability.

Vulnerabilities inevitably translate to risk. As such, Defence needs to develop a comprehensive understanding of what cyber risks its systems and platforms may be carrying and how they interact as part of a whole-Defence picture.

An experienced human factors practitioner, ergonomist or psychologist to join a newly formed team which will be acting as an Operations Cell for cyber security assurance reviews. The post-holder will be responsible for leaving activity relating to assessments of the vulnerabilities arising from the human-in-the- loop aspects of IS systems, processes and organisations under review.

The post-holder will initially be responsible for working with defence to develop s robust approach to human vulnerabilities assessment. This will require a good understanding of a range of human sciences, data gathering and analysis techniques. The post-holder will then be responsible for both applying the approach as part of cyber security assurance reviews, and also ensuring its appropriate use by suppliers who are likely to undertake the majority of assurance work. This post will therefore require strong technical skills, and also people skills.

It is likely that the post-holder will have line management responsibilities from 2017-18.

 Minimum requirements:

  • 2:1 BSc in human factors, ergonomics or psychology
  • At least 5 year’s post graduate experience in human factors, ergonomics or applied psychology
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Proven experience of leading team
  • Proven experience of managing suppliers

 Highly desirable:

  • Experience of working in an information assurance or cyber security or safety environment, or working with this subject matter
  • Experience of leading trials or applied research, including management of ethical, legal and safety considerations.
  • Chartership of a relevant professional body
  • Knowledge of the Military environment
