Summary of Role:
A Defect Manager is required, working in an established and highly motivated Testing team working on an IT systems implementation in a secure systems environment across Multiple MoD sites, operating in protectively marked environments and split across locations near Huntingdon and in West London. The Defect Manager will report to the Programme ITEA Manager.

The Defect Manager will be responsible for providing arbitration and defect process guidance on calls as well as defect administration, including initial triage of new defects and subsequent chasing down of resolution using JIRA as the tracking tool. The Defect Manager will be directed by the ITEA Manager and work with the Test Team Lead, systems Engineers and Programme Management to progress defects through to resolution and re-test.

Main Duties:

The individual will be required to chair both internal and external defect management meetings/calls in a structured manner. They will have the ability and confidence to challenge engineers and customers, and the commitment to follow defect resolution through to an acceptable outcome for both the programme and the customer.

Test phases to be covered by the Defect Manager include:
* Technical Verification Testing (TVT)
* Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
* Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
* (Customer) IT Health Check (ITHC)
* (Customer) Day in the Life trials (DitL).

Candidate Requirements:

The individual will be required to have a tenacious character with a persistent approach, be organised and regimental in delivery and be able to stand up to strong opinion and attitudes at times. Enforcing a strict code and discipline in order to ensure that the correct issues are addressed in a relatively quick period of time whilst ensuring that all issues have been addressed to an agreeable outcome.

Essential:

A deep understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle, and demonstrable application of relevant Test methodologies and toolsets
Proven and successful track record in the Integration, Verification, Validation and Testing of systems with complex networked solutions
Defect tracking and analysis working within a matrix organisation involving component suppliers.

IVV related experience in :

Requirement verification using standard engineering techniques tailored to software development
Development of Test Strategies and plans
Integration, Systems Test and Acceptance Execution.

Knowledge and application of:

Integration and Systems testing on at least one major programme;
Defect Analysis and Sentencing with Engineers and Customers
Experience of working within an MoD Secure environment
Experience of executing / managing tests and defects in a JSP440 controlled environment
Certification to ISTQB-BCS Certified Test Foundation level


Desirable:

ISTQB-BCS Advanced Test Analyst Certificate;
COTS GIS applications; Web Services; MS Windows Server; Linux;
Experience of using DOORS for requirements tracking;
Experience of the JIRA toolset for test and issue tracking.
