Top defence bodies named in The Times’ Top 50 Employers for Women

Published on: 3 May 2017

MI5, the British Army, the Home Office and BAE Systems are amongst some of the best employers of women in the UK after appearing in this year’s Top 50 Employers for Women compiled by The Times.

2017 marks the second year running that the Army and MI5 have appeared in the list which commends companies and organisations for their dedication to gender equality and enabling female talent.

Additionally, General Sir Nick Carter, the Army’s chief of general staff, has been handpicked for the list’s ‘Gender Champion Award’, a point which underscores the Army’s commitment to providing opportunity for all and to maximising talent.

General Sir Nick said the recognition goes some way towards “raising awareness of what the Army is trying to do”.

He commented: “There are no limits to what one can achieve - regardless of his or her race, gender, creed or social background.

“I am delighted that the Army’s effort to make the most of what this nation’s talent has to offer has been recognised in this award. All of the opportunities on offer in the Army are finally accessible to all.”

A statement from MI5’s diversity and inclusion team added: “We are proud to support our female talent with initiatives such as our Inspiring Future Women Leaders programme, which is a key part of MI5's efforts to be truly inclusive.”
