Securitas becomes first service provider to commit to UK living wage

Published on: 4 Dec 2017

Securitas has become the first global security company to become a recognised service provider working with the Living Wage Foundation.

This means the security firm has made a commitment to offer a real living wage option alongside every tender opportunity to all prospective and current clients.

Consequently, clients will always have the choice to implement the living wage at the point of tender. Securitas UK has also committed to pay all its head office staff the living wage as per its agreement with the Living Wage Foundation, which has so far attracted the support of 3,500 organisations committed to ending low pay in the UK’s lowest-paid service sectors.

Currently, the UK Living Wage is £8.75 per hour, rising to £10.20 an hour in all Greater London boroughs.

Grainne Kelly, Securitas’ operations centre director, comments: “We are proud of our commitment to always offer a real Living Wage option when contracting staff to clients.

“We believe that every member of staff should earn a wage that meets the cost of living and we are working hard to make this a reality.”

Roger Jenkins, national officer of trade union GMB, said the decision was fantastic news for Securitas staff.

“GMB members in security do an incredible job, from risking their own lives on a daily basis, to saving the lives of others and protecting the public and property in the current high-level terrorist threat,” he added.

“We applaud Securitas in being the first major security employer to recognise the true value of their role.”
