Police step up patrols in Jersey in an attempt to prevent lockdown breaches over sunny weekend

Published on: 3 Apr 2020

Police in Jersey aim to step up patrols this weekend as concerns grow that the good weather will lead to people breaching lockdown restrictions.

Chief of Police Robin Smith says people on the island should expect to see a greater police presence in the coming days and has urged them to ‘stay home to save lives’.

Mr Smith said so far the force have seen ‘enormous compliance’ with lockdown rules, and would be taking a tiered approach to breaches.

Police have said they will be taking information from anyone who is stopped and returning those in breach to their homes.

Those found to be persistently breaking rules could be hit with ‘substantial’ fines, but Mr Smith said this would be done ‘reluctantly’.
