The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has demonstrated its commitment to UK air power after signing two contracts worth almost £120 million combined.

Around 330 British jobs will be sustained as result of the contracts, which will help improve training for fast jet pilots in the RAF.

They will also make sure the Hercules C-130J aircraft can continue to support the UK’s Armed Forces around the world.

The first contract, worth £110 million with British company Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, will replace the centre wing box for the RAF’s Hercules C-130J aircraft and extend its out of service date to 2035.

Another contract with QinetiQ, worth £9.5 million, will provide Typhoon pilots with the latest cockpit technology to prepare them for front line combat.

Defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon said the substantial investments will ensure our Britain’s air force can continue to perform at its very best.

“These contracts will sustain high skilled jobs in Britain and ensure that our Armed Forces have the best equipment and training available to keep the UK safe,” he added.
