MI5 and MI6 both recruiting

Published on: 20 May 2019

Anyone who has ever dreamed of getting a job in the top-level security services might have their chance - because both MI5 and MI6 are currently recruiting for a number of roles.

The spy agencies have advertised several vacancies on their websites, from an expert in foreign languages to an intelligence officer.

For younger aspiring candidates, there are even internships open to those studying a STEM-related degree.

MI5 has openings in Manchester while the positions with MI6 are mostly at its headquarters in London.

However, applicants must be ready for a gruelling interview process, with multiple tests, pre-screening and two all-day exams essential for everyone who sends in their CV.

Applicants for all positions must be British nationals aged 21 or over and applications can only be discussed with a partner or close family member who has been made aware of the need for discretion.

MI5 is responsible for countering domestic threats, while MI6 or the Secret Intelligence Service works on the UK's safety overseas.

Earlier this year, MI6 launched a recruitment drive online in a bid to attract younger people and dispel the notion that its agents are all versions of James Bond.
