Extra security checks at this year's Glastonbury

As festival-goers start to pack their tents, welly boots and sunscreen, security teams at Glastonbury are quickly working to ramp up their security.

The move to increase security at the world-famous music event in Somerset comes following the recent terrorist attacks in London and Manchester. Festival organisers are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of the around 175,000 attendees, as well as performers and vendors.

Revellers have been told to expect to see additional security throughout the event, including through vehicle checks as they enter the Glastonbury site. This has sparked concerns about long traffic queues. Last year, thousands of people were stuck in their cars for up to 21 hours as they tried to reach the event. Those congestion problems were due to heavy rain and a four-car pileup, but the extra security is also likely to slow down the flow of traffic.

A spokesman for the festival urged visitors to pack light. "For security reasons, all ticket holders will be subject to extra searches of their vehicles, their bags and their person at this year's festival."
