BAE Systems targets Australian students for future projects
BAE Systems is appealing to Australia’s university students to consider a future career in the defence industry.
A number of upcoming major defence projects will create thousands of opportunities for graduates with a wide range of skills and experience, in particular SEA 5000 which will see BAE Systems build nine Future Frigates for the Royal Australian Navy if it wins the contract.
To ensure there will be an adequate supply of suitably qualified candidates to deliver these projects, BAE Systems has embarked on a roadshow to engage with students at universities around Australia and introduce them to career opportunities in the defence industry.
At each stop on the roadshow, students will have the chance to hear first-hand what it’s like working for the company, as well as learn about career development opportunities, the roles available now, roles expected to open up in the future and how to register for work.
BAE Systems has committed to creating 1,000 graduate and apprenticeship roles if it wins the SEA 5000 contract.
Glynn Phillips, BAE Systems chief executive, said: “We have been working with key universities and educational institutions for many years to ensure that defence is on a student’s list of future career options.
“We’re undertaking the roadshow now because it an ideal time of the year to engage with students who are considering career opportunities after graduation.”
