Atlas Elektronik secures Dstl torpedo deal

Published on: 4 Nov 2014

Atlas Elektronik UK (AEUK) has secured a £3.5 million contract to help protect UK interests from torpedo attacks.

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has awarded the firm a three-year deal to carry out research into a future torpedo counter-measures system for surface ships and submarines, the Dorset Echo reports.

AEUK is to head a consortium of firms that will provide Underwater Countermeasure advice, modelling and advanced concepts.

BAE Systems, Babcock Defence Systems Technology, BMT Defence Services and Ultra Electronics Sonar Systems are also involved in the project, which will involve work in security cleared positions.

Antoni Mazur, managing director at AEUK, said: "Winning this multi-million pound contract is another significant milestone for AEUK, this will ensure we continue to be at the forefront of torpedo defence system development."

Work is to take place in two stages: an initial requirements, performance assessment and concept definition phase, followed by in-water demonstrations of key aspects of the surface ship concept solution.
