Are SAS soldiers being trained with ballet?

Published on: 22 Nov 2019

It has been claimed that SAS soldiers are using ballet as part of their physical fitness training in a bid to make them leaner and more agile.

The special forces are renowned for being the best of the best and for their rigorous physical exercises as they prepare for missions, but their managers are apparently keen for new ways of strengthening their core muscles and ensuring they are battle-ready.

An anonymous source told the Daily Star a professional ballet teacher has been brought in and the troops are learning classical moves alongside their usual workouts to ensure they are lithe and flexible, rather than simply having big muscles.

"The classes are like torture sessions. Guys are dripping in sweat, holding their stomachs and begging the teacher for rest breaks. There was a lot of shaking of the heads when some of the younger guys announced that they were having ballet lessons, but the classes are now very popular," the source commented.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence said it could neither confirm nor deny any reports about the training of its special forces.

However, if the reports are true, ballet will undoubtedly be working wonders for the SAS. It is renowned for creating long, strong muscles, a solid core, good posture and improved coordination, all of which the troops are likely to require during operations.
