Tax but not as you know it.

Are you interested in a role where you will investigate serious fraud committed by individuals and organised criminal groups, using the full range of law enforcement powers?

Do you have an inquisitive mind and the ambition in developing a career within an organisation that is at the front line of the fight against tax cheats and fraudsters?

Are you a team-player who could work effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders, such as the Police, to bring criminals to justice?

HMRC are looking for Criminal Investigators to work in the Fraud Investigation Service (FIS)

FIS ensures that HMRC has an effective approach to tackling the most serious tax evasion and fraud to protect funding for UK public services.

We use a range of powers and approaches, investigating the most harmful tax cheats and ensuring nobody is beyond our reach.

As a Criminal Investigator you’ll help gather vital evidence on individuals and organised crime groups and prepare cases for court. You’ll attend court yourself as well, both to give evidence and to obtain orders and warrants.  You can expect a combination of desk based investigations alongside static and foot surveillance.

This is a challenging and rewarding role, certainly not a standard 9 to 5 job! You will be required to work unsociable hours and may be called up at short notice – an allowance is paid for this additional flexibility.

You will receive effective training for your role including training on arrests, search warrants and appearances in Court. You will be supported through your training and successful completion of the whole training programme will result in an Accredited Counter-Fraud qualification.

FIS is home to a wide range of teams and people with a variety of skills and professional backgrounds – including accountancy, cybercrime and covert surveillance, to name but a few. As your career within FIS progresses you may have the opportunity to move into and specialise in one of these areas.
