Job Details
The successful candidate will hold Chartered Engineer professional status and be a member of a recognised engineering institution with a minimal of 10 years successful project experience within the Oil and Gas or Marine Industries.

The individual is required to be a "Subject Matter Expert" within the marine electrical systems discipline and have significant previous experience in all phases of the project lifecycle within engineering projects.

A thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and classification society rule sets will be essential.

Responsibilities:

The individual will work within a small engineering team, reporting to the Electrical Engineering Functional Manager, and shall be required to provide technical support and leadership to a number of projects with specific responsibilities to include:

  • Produce, review and approve calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports, in accordance with task and project requirements;
  • Assessing the implications of changes, concessions and queries;
  • Maintaining the engineering configuration, ensuring the overall design intent and integrity is maintained throughout design lifecycle;
  • Contribute to process improvements within the design lifecycle to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time and cost;
  • Evaluate technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions, including process improvements;
  • Provide support to the Project Manager for the planning, control and delivery of tasks and projects;
  • Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids, in area(s) of expertise, to facilitate the development of successful bids;
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their development;
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority:
  • Ensure required review, verification and approval of work is undertake;
  • Act as Technical Authority when authorised to do so by Chief Engineer or delegated authority;

Accountabilities:
(The individual shall also have the following accountabilities;

  • Exercise and exhibit, at all times, the highest standards of care for own health and safety and that of others as defined by Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and endorsed by Company policy, procedures and delegations, e.g. Health and Safety.
  • Be knowledgeable of the 'Being Babcock' Behavioural Framework and strive to exceed the expected competency levels at all times.
  • Adhere to and operate at the highest level of ethical conduct, all endorsed company policy ,procedures and delegations, e.g. Diversity and Inclusion, PDR's and Finance, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable of the content of the Design Lifecycle and the procedures defined therein
  • Ensure awareness of the legal, regulatory codes and standards requirements that are required for the project or task deliverable. Ensure that technical and design solutions are compliant with these requirements.
  • Establish with the Project Manager the man-hour budget for any assigned task together with expected completion date.
  • Work within the man-hour budget, or advise the Project Manager of expected variation at the earliest opportunity.
  • Provide a technical interface with customers and supply chain at a detailed level
  • Proactively seek opportunities to achieve task completion to less than budget.
  • Report on schedule and cost plan as required by the Project Manager, to complete assigned task.
  • Take responsibility for the quality of their output and ensure all deliverables are Reviewed, Verified and Approved at the appropriate level, by SQEP resource as defined by the Engineering Assurance Plan.
  • Maintain effective communications with all other disciplines and functional groups associated with the task or project, and when required, with the customer and other Stakeholders.
  • Support the business winning process when allocated to those tasks using approved bid preparation procedures.
  • Ensure regular review and maintenance of SQEP record (technical competency frameworks).
  • Keep up to date in relevant technical areas.
  • Undertake project specific role(s) within designated SQEP capability, e.g. Project Technical Authority, Engineering Lead, Safety Lead,
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with all relevant Risk Assessments, obtaining the necessary safety paperwork to carry out tasks, Point of Work Safety Assessment, visit log, etc as required
  • Support continuous improvement.
  • If in doubt, seek appropriate guidance and support.

Qualifications:
Engineering or Science degree qualification in relevant discipline, with significant demonstrable experience or HND qualified with significant demonstrable engineering experience and capability.
Security
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.

Based at Rosyth Business Park on the Firth of Forth at Rosyth, which is 3 miles south of Dunfermline. Rosyth is less than 15 miles from Edinburgh. As the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is a vibrant city with something for everyone.
