A fantastic opportunity to join a leading provider of advanced technology solutions to the defence sector. As the Head of Software Engineering, the main emphasis on this role will be to measure and improve the overall performance of the Software Engineering teams, streamlining work processes within an agile development environment.

The appointment will find you supporting the Governance and Control of Software engineering activities including the assignment of team members to projects, managing the financial aspects of a large department, project scheduling and project cost estimation also forms part of the role.

This position wil require regular travel to other UK offices and occassional international travel will also be expected.

Due to the nature of the role in defence, this role is only open to single British Nationals who can obtain security clearance.

Key Responsibilies
*Leadership of a Software Engineering function within defence tech, overseas around 50 engineers
*Act as the lead authority for agreeing robust Software Development Plans
*Oversee the allocation of software engineers
*Seeks to continually improve the effectiveness and capabilities of software engineering
*Managing the associated financial aspects of the department
*Contributes to strategic planning for the software engineering function

Skills, knowledge and experience required
*Proven personal background in Software Development, backend and low-level programming across the FDLC
*Ability to manage budgets and balance costs, ensure optimised solutions for the business
*Strong leadership and organisational abilities and experience building team capability
*Thorough understanding of software engineering discipline and agile methods
*Strong focus on performance measurement, ability to process under the microscope and find room for improvement
*A background in Defence Tech or safety critical systems would be ideal
