MAINFRAME TECHNOLOGY ARCHITECT (PART TIME), HOME OFFICE - POLICE AND PUBLIC PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY PORTFOLIO, UP TO £800/DAY

Assignment Location: Locations to be split between:- Working from home / Home Office, HDC, 1 Peel Square, Aerodrome Road, London, NW9 5JE / Home Office, Bernard Weatherill House, 9th Floor, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon, CR0 1EA / Home Office, 2 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DF

Rate: Market Rates

Contract Length: up to 24 months

Working Arrangements: This will be a part time role estimated at 5 working days per month. This may vary over the life of the contract. Please note that this role has been initially assessed as being outside of scope of IR35. The IR35 status will checked again at the point of contract award.

Role Summary

The role will involve analysing and assessing the feasibility for various upgrade options for software such as OSD v9, UTM v6.3, Natural v427, Adabas v825 and related or interfacing components. And then, potentially, leading as a technical consultant any agreed changes for implementation. The work will be in 3 phases;

  1. Analysis of mainframe technology hardware and software to formulate recommendations for upgrade options, to maintain continuity of support from suppliers and develop a roadmap including costs / resource profiles for minimal change through the life of the system.
  2. Support the delivery of any commissioned change activity recomended, this could include documenting or validating high and low level designs, test strategies, implementation plans and also executing changes where there are identified internal skills gaps.
  3. Support relevant BAU activities to resolve incidents, changes, problems affecting the mainframe components - by advising or hands on configuration.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Recent (within the last 2 years) demonstrable experience of working on National Policing Systems.
  • Recent (within the last 2 years) extensive demonstrable experience over 10 years of designing and supporting solutions with Fujitsu mainframe technology (Mainframe SE700 H/W with BS2000, OSD v9, UTM v6.3)
  • Demonstrable experience over 10 years of designing and supporting solutions with Software AG mainframe technology (Natural v427, Adabas v825)
  • Recent (within the last 2 years) demonstrable experience developing and or supporting products implemented in a mixture of Cobol, C, 390 assembler and Easy Case assembler.

 Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Working knowledge of software such as, LiveSM5 Additional Security, SRG Signon, NSPIS, VODS, QUEST, ANPR, PFI and MLOG
