The Role of a Senior Project Support Officer

Your role as Senior Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project’s objectives. As Senior Project Support Officer, you will enable the smooth running of the project by supporting the Project Manager through the operation of project management processes, and the coordination of business management actions and activities on their behalf.

You will be responsible for providing expert and flexible project support in delivering within the Home Office Transformation Portfolio. It is large, complex and challenging and encompasses over 20 major and/or mission critical projects and programmes plus four business portfolios of change. There is a strong focus on agile, modular project delivery, supported by enterprise-wide portfolio management and you could find yourself working on a project for the UK’s critical national infrastructure through to a complex technology enabled business change programme.

 

Typical Role Responsibilities:

Planning & Scheduling – Ensure systems are in place to enable effective planning & scheduling

Monitoring & Reporting – Manage project controls, reporting to the Project Manager about the project status. Develop project performance reports

Admin – Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently. Manage compliance of the project with Departmental Security, Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Business Continuity and Business Planning

Resources – Lead a team responsible for identifying, developing & deploying resources.  Manage workforce planning, providing information for effective decision making to the Project Manager. Procurement of supplies and services related to project support within Delegated Financial Authority limits.

Stakeholder – Manage and engage with a wide rate of internal and external stakeholders. Draft and sign-off correspondence

Financial control – Manage project spend and contribute to the compilation of budgets. Contribute to the project business case.

Risks & Issues – Lead potential risk areas, working with risk manager and escalating as appropriate

 

Technical Competencies:

Candidate must have as a minimum:

  • A working knowledge of planning and frameworks & methodologies
  • A practitioner level of knowledge scheduling, risk & issue management, governance, stakeholder engagement, assurance, change control and knowledge management

 

Behavioural Competencies:

Candidate must have as a minimum:

  • An awareness of visible leadership, working with ambiguity, inspiring others and culture change
  • A working level knowledge of credible action, collaboration, influencing and conflict resolution
  • Self-starter/confident manner

 

Desirable criteria:

  • Frontline support experience, such as the Police Force
  • A good understanding of IT

 

Qualifications & Professional Memberships:

  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner
