Resettling the Skripals would be an abduction of our citizens, says Russian Embassy

The Russian Embassy in London has said the secret resettlement of Sergei Skripal or his daughter Yulia would be considered as an abduction of its citizens.

Ms Skripal was discharged from Salisbury Hospital earlier this week, more than a month after being subjected to a military-grade nerve agent along with her former double-agent father.

She is currently being accommodated at a ‘secure location’ by the UK government, which has led to the Russian Embassy claiming that she is being ‘held hostage by the same people who destroy evidence and fail to come up with a single official account of the crime’.

Meanwhile, Mr Skripal is said to be making good progress in his recovery, albeit at a slower rate than his daughter.

Once discharged, Britain could give the pair new identities and a fresh life in the US to protect them from further attacks.

However, the Russian Embassy said this would mean the opportunity to hear their version of events would be lost.

“The world, while having no opportunity to interact with them, will have every reason to see this as an abduction of the two Russian nationals or at least as their isolation,” the Russian Embassy said.

“We urge British authorities to act in a transparent way while it is still possible to try fixing the damage they have caused to the international image of their country.”
