GCHQ to expand into Manchester with new offices from 2019

Published on: 25 Apr 2018

GCHQ will open a new base in Manchester in 2019, it has been announced.

The new secure site in the North West of England is expected to create hundreds of jobs for people who will have a vital role in keeping Britain safe, using cutting-edge technology and technical ingenuity to identify and disrupt threats to the UK.

Jeremy Fleming, GCHQ director, said the new facility will open up a huge new pool of highly talented, tech-savvy recruits vital to the future success of the organisation.

He commented: “Manchester is a city full of innovation and talent, known for its tolerance and inclusivity, which last year was tragically attacked by someone who had neither.

“In that difficult time, we at GCHQ drew strength from the togetherness and resilience shown by all of Manchester’s communities. That's how you tackle terrorism.”

Aside from its Cheltenham headquarters, GCHQ's network of sites includes offices in Scarborough and in Bude, Cornwall.

Jobs at the new Manchester offices will be advertised later this year, but a range of roles are currently being recruited for across its existing sites at www.gchq-careers.co.uk.
