KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The individual will need to have the following core skills and experience:
Essential
·3+ years technical understanding and experience of configuring troubleshooting and supporting all aspects of the following:
o Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 4 and 5
o Solaris 8 9 and 10.
o Red Hat / Sun Cluster
o Jumpstart / Kickstart
o Authentication and authorisation (LDAP sudo RSA)
o TCP/IP networks
o OS hardening (including host based firewalls)
o OS network security
o HP and SUN server hardware
o Data centre infrastructure
o OS storage technologies (Powerpath multipathing)
o OS patching (preferably Sun Connection)
o Volume management (LVM VxVM SDS / SVM)
o Unix services (Apache FTP SNMP sendmail NFS NTP Samba CUPS)
o Virtual hosts (preferably VMWare based)
· Government Security Accreditations
· Degree educated preferably a technical degree
· Good knowledge of relevant ISO requirements
· Good communication and presentation skills (written & verbal)
· Ability to work in a focused manner under pressure to meet tight deadlines
· Ability to produce quality documentation
· Ability to provide guidance to programme management and technical teams
· Understanding of risk management within a technical environment
· Analytical and problem solving skills
· Both self motivated and team player
· Attention to detail
· Adaptability and the ability to learn new skills quickly
· SC clearance is required to be undertaken for this role.
Desirable
· Experience of UNIX shell scripting and/or another scripting language
· In depth knowledge of DNS
· EMC SAN solutions
· Operational knowledge of BMC Patrol agent
· Familiarity with Netbackup
· Experience of SMTP troubleshooting
· ITIL Foundation
· In-depth knowledge of Secure Operations Hosting environment or experience of working in a secure environment
· Good knowledge of HMG standards policies and procedures
· Experience with working with strict customer Service Level Agreements.
· Excellent prioritisation skills to meet customer and business requirements within agreed SLA's.
· Innovative in respect of service quality and the ways it can be improved to benefit the customer and the business
· An ability to interact successfully with all levels of customer and the organisation
· Good presentation skills
· Valid / full UK driving licence
