Staff cuts to police forces which guard Britain’s nuclear arsenal would compromise national security if they go through later this year, according to the Defence Police Federation (DPF).
The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP), which guards sites such as the Trident submarine base at Faslane on the Clyde, could see its 2,600-strong workforce reduced by 15 per cent as part of a review in November.
This would come just six years after the force’s personnel was slashed by around a third due to budget cuts following 2010's Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR).
